Information Available Concerning the Victims of the Bondi Beach Terrorist Incident

A minimum of 16 lives perished and over 40 were hurt when attackers opened fire at a Hanukkah event at Bondi Beach, a tragedy local police have labeled a terrorist attack.

According to the most recent information, officials have confirmed the death toll stands at 16, including one of the suspected attackers. Additionally, 42 people with injuries were admitted to the hospital.

The deceased have not yet been officially identified, but police believe their ages are from 10 and 87 years old.

Listed are the victims who have been named to date.

Eli Schlanger

London-born rabbi Eli Schlanger, 41, was the first victim to be named.

Reportedly a father of five children, he worked as the associate rabbi at Chabad of Bondi. Family members and acquaintances remembered him as “vivacious, energetic, full of life and a very kind and sociable person who loved to help people”.

“How is it possible that a happy rabbi who went to a beach to spread happiness and light, to make the world a better place, meet his end in this way?” a relative asked.

Schlanger and his wife had recently celebrated the birth of their newest son in October.

Alexander Kleytman

Alexander Kleytman also lost his life, according to his wife.

She told the events leading up to the attack, stating they were standing when the shooting started. “He shielded me because he wanted to stay near me,” she recalled.

The couple were both survivors of the Holocaust, having endured unspeakable terror in their childhood. They had subsequently immigrated to Australia from Ukraine.

Dan Elkayam

French foreign ministry have announced that French national Dan Elkayam is among the dead.

Officially, the Foreign Minister said that France stood with his family, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.

“This low act is a fresh and tragic example of a revolting outpouring of antisemitic hatred that we must eradicate,” the message continued.

One Child

A young girl, aged 10 who was rushed to the Sydney Children’s Hospital succumbed to her injuries, police have confirmed.

One Israeli Citizen

An Israeli citizen was also killed during the attack, according to multiple sources citing the Israeli government.

Those Injured

Of the 42 people taken to hospitals, many are still receiving treatment, with several in a critical state. The injured include two officers who responded to the attack.

A wounded man is a member of the public who attempted to intervene to confront one of the gunmen. Described as a hero, he sustained bullet wounds but is expected to recover in hospital.

Arsen Ostrovsky

Among the injured is Arsen Ostrovsky, a public affairs professional. Reports indicate he was injured and underwent treatment in hospital.

In a message, he described the scene as an “utter carnage,” but also praised the response of those who rushed to help. He said he believed it was a “miracle” he survived.

Evan Zlatkis

Evan Zlatkis, a community director, was also injured in the attack. He told reporters he listened to “a large number” of gunshots.

“I thought it was something less lethal, but it penetrated my own skin and into my leg,” he explained. “I’ve been shot myself. They bandaged me up. I’m ok.”
